How to Choose Replacement Windows for Your Colorado Springs Home

replacement_windows_colorado_springs_2If you are new to the concept of buying windows, or you’re just not sure which ones would work best fo your home, then you need to spend some time learning about windows.  But who really wants to spend a weekend poring over window brochures and visiting showrooms?  The truth is; very few people have the time to learn much about replacement windows in Colorado Springs.  Most of us simply trust the first contractor we call.  If that is your method of selecting a home improvement professional, it’s time to use a different strategy.  Windows are not the same as buying lumber or light fixtures; there are several different types of windows for the home, and each type is available in numerous grades and price ranges.

In a recent article that appeared on my favorite contractor’s website, “Replacement Windows in Colorado Springs- Which Ones Are Best?,” the author makes some recommendations for the type of window replacement you might want to consider. The last thing you want to do is go through another winter with leaky or drafty windows that are letting cold drafts into your home.

With all the log homes and cabins in the Colorado mountains, it is no surprise that Coloradoans are somewhat more partial to wood windows than any other part of the country, but wood windows are a lot more expensive than other materials.  Wood is also much more difficult to maintain than vinyl.  That’s why the article recommends choosing a higher grade of vinyl replacement windows that have the proper insulation to match the climate where you live.

Despite the obvious differences in aesthetics and “curb appeal”, vinyl replacement windows are a better choice for your Colorado Springs home.  The contractor I recommend for windows and siding is the same one I’ve been working with since the late 1980s, when I first moved here from Minnesota.  Because I already had experience with cold winters, I had no problem buying vinyl replacement windows in Colorado.  To me, this was an easy decision, but windows have improved quite a bit in recent years.  The selection of Simonton replacement windows at the Colorado Springs Heart House showroom was much more impressive than I had expected.

Customers at Heart House can choose the type and color of their interior hardware; decide on grille styles, and upgrade to self-cleaning glass, and then they can decide on the level of insulation needed.  If you’ve never shopped for replacement windows or met with a Colorado Springs window installer, you may be surprised to learn just how many options are available.
