Before you file a Social Security Disability Insurance claim in ColoradoSocial Security Disability lawyer colorado, it is important to learn the legal basics.  First of all, there are two programs in the US that administer Social Security payments.  One of these is Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD or SSDI) and the other is Social Security Income (SSI).  Both were designed to provide monthly income and benefits to disabled individuals who have either worked to contribute to the fund (SDI) or who can prove they have both a disability and a financial need (SSI).

Filing for these benefits can be a tedious and frustrating process, which explains why so many Colorado claimants work with a Social Security Disability Lawyer.  Claims can be filed at your local field office (Denver, Colorado Springs, etc), but in many cases they are quickly rejected.  This is because they lack sufficient evidence of the claimant’s medical condition, or the records don’t sufficiently prove a disability.

If you have lost a SSI or SDI case in Colorado, contact an experienced SSI attorney to file an immediate appeal.  You will only have sixty days from the time of your rejection to take care of this, and this time you will want to get it right.

Remember, benefits are awarded to people who unemployed persons who have worked and paid Social Security payroll taxes in at least five out of the past ten years.  Their disability must be proven, it must be expected to last at least 12 months, and it must prevent the claimant from performing their normal job.

When applying for SSDI or SSI, it's important to remember that benefits are generally awarded to people who are unemployed and have worked (and paid payroll taxes) in at least five of the last ten years.  One must also have a proven disability that is expected to last for at least 12 months and be unable to perform their normal career work or previous job.  Benefits will not begin until about five months after the “established onset” of the disability, or the date that the claimant became disabled.

If you are a Colorado resident who has become disabled, you may be eligible for benefits from more than one source.  Contact a Clawson & Clawson Social Security Disability lawyer in Denver, Colorado Springs or Pueblo areas immediately to thoroughly review your legal options.   Call today for a free consultation.
