Michael M. Clawson
Michael M. Clawson is a partner at Clawson & Clawson, LLP. He was raised in Colorado Springs and graduated from Doherty High School. He is a second generation Colorado Springs attorney. His father, Millen, came to Colorado Springs and began practicing law in 1968. Millen Clawson was the founding partner of Clawson, Potter & Gardner, P.C., a reputable old Colorado Springs law firm.
Michael attended Brigham Young University where he received a B.A. in Political Science. While at BYU he was a member of the Pre Law Society and the Political Science Honor Society. Michael received his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law. While in law school, he clerked for several different law firms including a firm that was in house counsel for a national insurance company. During his last year of law school, Michael was the municipal prosecutor for the City of Thornton, Colorado. As a law student, he was responsible for the prosecution of all city ordinance violations.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Clawson began working as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Aurora, Colorado, and held that position for over four years. During this time, he tried over 50 jury trials and over 100 trials to the court. After leaving the City Attorney's office, Michael worked as an Associate, then later a Partner, at Clawson, Potter & Gardner, P.C. During this time he specialized in areas of Workers' Compensation, Personal Injury, Social Security Disability, Bankruptcy and Criminal Defense.
In 2003, Michael opened a solo practice before joining forces with his father and brother to open the firm of Clawson & Clawson, LLP in 2004. Mr. Clawson has favorably represented hundreds of clients and has helped them work through the complicated maze of our legal system. Michael's practice emphasis is in the areas of Workers' Compensation, Personal Injury, Social Security Disability, Bankruptcy and Criminal Defense. He is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Workers' Compensation Education Association, CBA, and El Paso County Bar Association. Michael is also a Board Member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. To add to his achievements, Michael was recently voted the 2012 Best Attorney in Colorado Springs by the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph. In 2008, he was voted runner-up for the best attorney in Colorado Springs by the Colorado Springs Independent. Combined with his other awards and certifications, Michael has also been recognized by the Chief Judge for the Supreme Court for his outstanding contributions.
Outside of practicing law Michael volunteers his services in various youth and church organizations. Michael is very involved in Boy Scouts having boys of his own. Currently, he is a merit badge counselor and has served as a chairman of his local troop committee for the Boy Scouts of America. In 2012, Michael took on the role as director of a youth camp servicing more than 100 young men. As an energetic father and husband, Michael is very involved in sports and has even coached numerous basketball teams.
Michael Clawson enjoys playing basketball, golfing, skiing, wake boarding, mountain bike riding and scuba diving.
